Shane Thorbourne

Shane Thorbourne

We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Shane Gregory Thorbourne on December 2, 2023.

Shane was born in Halifax, NS on September 29th, 1961 to Wayne Bradford Thorbourne and the late Claudette Marie (d’Eon) Thorbourne. In his early teenage years, he met his soulmate, Erma, who then became his wife. Through the years, Shane and Erma’s love for each other was constant and was at the base of the life they created with their two daughters, Ashley and Alissa.  As a family, they shared a love for camping and being outdoors, especially sitting by a campfire as Dad was known to be a ‘fire bug’. He was always barbecuing for the gang and enjoyed floating in the lake. Shane always brought the girls along and shared with them his love for lobster fishing, hunting, golfing and wheeling. As they moved out and started their own families, his daughters knew that he was only a phone call away as he was their ‘go-to guy’ who could fix anything or would stop in for a visit anytime.

The next chapter of his life began when he became ‘Pep’ to his grandchildren: Aleah, Alex and Annie. Shane never missed an opportunity with his three little ones as they became his world. They loved everything about him but especially his daily visits, his hugs and the memories they made while camping.

If he wasn’t with family, you could find Shane with his friends, more specifically at ‘The Banker’s’ sharing a yarn or two and lots of laughs. He made great friendships throughout his life as he was always up for anything.

Shane is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Erma (d’Entremont) Thorbourne (West Pubnico); his daughters that he loved beyond words, Ashley (Allain) Thorbourne, West Pubnico; Alissa (Tristan) Surette, Pubnico; his father, Wayne (Mabel) Thorbourne, Barrington; his sisters, Lise (Lee) Stoddard, Lower West Pubnico; Mona (Spencer) Nickerson, Hubbards; his sisters-in-law, Lisa Nickerson, Lower Argyle; Annora (Phillip) Surette, Yarmouth; his grandchildren, Aleah, Alex and Annie; his special nephews and nieces, Kyle (Sophie), Brittany, Brandy, Kelsey (Matt) and Quinn (Faith).

He is predeceased by his mother, Claudette Thorbourne; his brother, Brian Thorbourne and his granddaughter, Sadie Marie Surette.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 10-11am, followed by a funeral service at 11am all taking place in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Middle West Pubnico. The service will be live streamed on the West Pubnico Funeral Home and Cremation Services Facebook site beginning at 11am. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the IWK in memory of his granddaughter Sadie Marie Surette or to St. Peter’s Cemetery Fund. A reception will follow at the West Pubnico Fire Hall.  Donations of food can be dropped off after 9:30am.  On line condolences may be forwarded to the family at westpubnicofh.com.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to West Pubnico Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Middle West Pubnico.  902 762-3407

Shane will forever be remembered as a kind man who truly loved his family and friends. His daily calls and check-ins will be missed, but his special smile and all of the happiness he brought into everyone’s lives will be missed the most.
