Luke MacKenzie

Luke MacKenzie

Luke Foster MacKenzie

September 4, 1987 – April 23, 2023

It is with great sadness the family of Luke MacKenzie announce his passing of natural causes.

Born in Yarmouth, NS, Luke was the son of Allan and Ginger (Nesbitt) MacKenzie. He was survived by his loving partner Alicia Jacquard; brother, Mark (Jill); sister Lynn (Eric); nephews Ainslee and Clair; nieces, Edie, Meredith, and Quinn; uncles, Larry (Clara), Brian (Bev), Harold (Wendy); aunts, Marilyn (Roland), Sundae (Gordon), and Monica (Arnold); and many special cousins and many loving friends. Luke was predeceased by uncles Leigh (Lorna) and Daniel (Monica) MacKenzie; grandparents Clare (Evelyn) MacKenzie, and Arnold (Evelyn) Nesbitt.

Luke was an incredibly talented artist of various forms, from painting to tattoo design, drawing, sculpture, and his unique eye for photography. He owned and operated a tattoo shop, Obscured Ink, in Yarmouth, NS. His tattoos and art were loved by so many.

Luke was so full of love for his partner, family, friends, and community. He never missed a chance to tell us, "I love you". He gave the best hugs and he saw the best in everyone. Luke was always caring for and supporting others. He would wake in the middle of the night to sober drive a friend without hesitation. He would make homemade meals for his family and friends and deliver them when they weren’t well. Those closest to him will remember his hilarious jokes and his love of laughter.

When he wasn’t making art, he loved playing guitar, building furniture, completing stonework, beach combing, watching the sunset with his partner, and spending time near the ocean and in nature. He loved to teach people, believing we all had hidden artistic talents. He was always encouraging people to try artistic projects, and even allowing close friends to tattoo him. He spent many hours teaching his nephews metalworking. Luke will be so deeply missed by all that knew him.

Luke will be laid to rest in the family plot in Mount Pleasant Cemetery (23 Argyle Head Road, Argyle, Nova Scotia) at 11am on Thursday, April 27. There will be a reading, and all are welcome to attend. A celebration of his life will follow at The Argyler Lodge (52 Ye Olde Argyle Rd, Argyle, Nova Scotia) at 1pm and all are welcome to attend.
