Franklyn d'Entremont

Franklyn d'Entremont

Franklyn Adelbert d’Entremont, 78, of Lower West Pubnico, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2022 surrounded by family. Born in Lower West Pubnico on July 23, 1944 to Elmer and Adeline d’Entremont, he was the eldest of 7 children.  At the tender age of 13, Franklyn began his lobster fishing career with a bang when gas fumes on board his dad’s boat he worked on exploded. Married at 19 to the love of his life, Franklyn and Alice had three children who benefitted from the demands of his job. While he harpooned swordfish off the coast of Massachusetts, they enjoyed playing on the nearby beaches. He is known along the East Coast as one of the top harpooners of his time but spent the large part of his working life as captain of his own lobster boat. Music has always been a part of his life and if he was not jamming with his friends, he could be found strumming the guitar and singing old songs from his childhood at home.  He survived many health challenges. In his twenties, he contracted tuberculosis and spent 16 months in a sanatorium. At the age of 47, he was diagnosed with incurable brain and lung cancer, but with determination, excellent health care, major lifestyle changes and the unwavering support of his wife, Alice, he survived and thrived for 30 more years. Franklyn turned his challenges into a passion for helping others. He became an inspiration and spokesperson for those struggling with cancer, speaking at support groups and sharing his story. He has always been a devout catholic and was involved in the local choir and many other faith groups.  After retiring from lobster fishing, he enjoyed traveling, deer hunting at the camp and meeting with friends for coffee. He never lost his love for the sea and was known to have said, "Every swordfish I saw was a gift from God because the ocean is vast and the fish are not everywhere." Franklyn was a kind man who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Franklyn will be dearly missed and is survived by his wife Alice; children Jennifer (Dean) Robertson, Andre (Michelle) d’Entremont  and Carl d’Entremont (Monique); grandchildren Benjamin and Samuel Robertson and Enya d’Entremont; siblings Verna LeBlanc, William (Faye) d’Entremont, Yvette d’Entremont and Alvah (Christine) d’Entremont. He was predeceased by his brothers Vernon, Earl.and brother-in-law Leroy.

A special thanks to the staff of the Veterans Place in Yarmouth for their loving care & support during his final days.  Visitation will be Sunday, July 31, 2022 from 7:00-9:00pm in the West Pubnico Funeral Home, Middle West Pubnico.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday August 1, 2022 at 10am in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Middle West Pubnico with Fr.
